The new standard for ultra high efficiency filter media, MEGABond delivers HEPA efficiencies for a wide variety of dust collection applications. Now available for use in SpaceSaver® and Mac2Flo® cartridge dust collectors, MEGABond can withstand rigorous pulse-cleaning.

The cartridge includes a high quality blended base media; with uniformly consistent nanotechnology fibers tightly bonded to the substrate. The result is superior mechanical strength and extreme durability with increased surface dust loading, fractional efficiency and better dust holding capacity. Throughout the duration of tests on various dust samples, MEGABond cartridges outperformed the current standard, accommodating twice the air to cloth ratio in the process without increased emissions.

Nanofiber technology offers MERV 15 operational efficiency and delivers outstanding efficiencies on submicron particles. MEGABond nanofibers will not flake off during pleating or pulsing.

Air pulse cleaning is more efficient and effective with MEGABond’s FixedPleat feature. The unique pleat spacing design allows for more systematic cleaning between the pleats of the media. This improved cleaning extends the life span of the cartridge.

“Ever tightening environmental restrictions are placing new demands on the filtration media industry,” said Jay Brown, President and CEO of Mac Process. “Our ultra-high efficiency filter media offerings—including MEGABond cartridge media and DYNA-MAC® micro-denier bags—provide exceptional removal of submicron particulate.”

DYNA-MAC felts are engineered with micro-denier fibers which provide the highest filtration efficiency of any non-membrane filter felt for many difficult applications. DYNA-MAC felt is 53% more efficient than previous high efficiency felt offerings.

Increased surface area of the micro-denier fibers keep the dust particles on the surface of a DYNA-MAC felt filter bag. The improvement in surface filtration also provides excellent cake release and filtration efficiency. The improved cake release leads to lower fan horsepower requirements and fewer pulses to maintain production demand. Less cleaning means reduced consumption of compressed air, which lower operating costs.

Article by Jonathan Thorn, Mac Process Director of Technology

While a rotary airlock valve is the most common valve for feeding dry bulk materials into a pressure pneumatic conveying system, it isn’t a perfect sealing device. In fact, air leakage (also called blow-by) is inherent to the airlock’s design, and the device leaks conveying air (or other conveying gas) at a rate proportional to the pressure differential across the airlock. The pressure below the airlock is created by resistance to flow as material is transferred.

What problems can unvented leakage air from your rotary airlock valve cause? In a pressure conveying system, the airlock feeds material near the system’s start, so air leaking through the airlock vents back into the upstream process. This leakage can limit material flow into the airlock; release dust into your workplace or outdoor atmosphere, which can create major housekeeping or environmental problems; and pressurize upstream equipment, which can disrupt your process. To prevent these problems, you need to find a way to properly vent the air leaking through the airlock.

For more than 40 years, Mac Process has provided air filtration and pneumatic conveying solutions that maximize product flow rates and minimize the environmental impact of manufacturing processes. As a part of the 150-year-old Schenck Process Group, it taps into a global resource that enables clients to achieve goals, reports Lorie Greenspan.

Call it wisdom. Call it application knowledge. At Mac Process it’s all the same. Its experts have a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing related to its industry: That is, they develop the right filtration and pneumatic conveying system that fits the specific need.

As Rob O’Conor, vice president of filtration, describes: “We pride ourselves on our application knowledge, and we make sure we understand not only our equipment but the customer’s process. The more we know about what a customer needs, the better we can tailor-fit a solution.”

This is an important element, as this company is an application-and solution-driven enterprise. While it provides its industry’s most perfect equipment, its application knowledge is its true competitive advantage. “That’s what we live and breathe, all of our people,” comments O’Conor. “As we evolve, we want to remain true to our corporate philosophy, which is to make great equipment and be the leading experts and knowledge resource for our customers.”

During the past two years, Mac Process engineers have increased the use of de-mountable-style valves in dry material pneumatic transfer systems to help customers meet challenging requirements for sanitation and inspection. With the launch of the CRA valve, Mac Process has taken an important step in a visionary Clean Design Initiative, which will supply a complete line of engineered and manufactured cleanable solutions for food and pet food customers.

Offering the largest cubic feet per revolution capacity —a critical improvement —the CRA can handle extremely high process rates on products. Now high end food and pet food manufacturers can use cleanable technology in systems where high product volume demand may have prevented their use in the past. The tool-free CRA valve operation makes it easier for customers to clean their equipment after a campaign is finished to prevent bacterial growth and facilitate inspections.

“We listened to customer requirements and are bringing to market Clean Design Initiative manufactured solutions that addresses their needs. When 3A Dairy equipment isn’t required by the application, the CRA valve brings a new standard of safe food design without added cost or complexity,” said Jay Brown, President and CEO of Mac Process. “Best of all, as a single source supplier and manufacturer, we’re able to improve control over lead time and quality.”

The high quality, high performance CRA valve is available in four models: CRA8, CRA10, CRA12, and CRA14. Oversized rotor shafts create a naturally radiused rotor pocket, promoting product release and sustaining throughput efficiency. Mac Process CRA valves have considerably less rotor deflection than other valves on the market. Components used in product contact areas, including the seals, are constructed of FDA approved materials and all lubrication in and out of product zones are NSF H1 and H2 rated. Design is also available for NFPA 69 isolation valve requirements.

Also part of the new Clean Design Initiative from Mac Process— the newly designed SEntry filter will be on display at the 2012 PXTi show. Patent pending revolutionary design will help food and pet food producers comply with today’s challenging industry sanitation requirements, while minimizing operating and maintenance costs.

The SEntry is a side entry cartridge filter with tool-free cartridge removal. Confined space entry safety concerns are eliminated. Unique cleanable design model significantly decreases maintenance and provides easy access for cleaning and inspection.

Designed for low headroom applications, this versatile collector can be used as a dust collector or as a primary receiver in pneumatic conveying applications. Vertical explosion venting makes the SEntry collector ideal for applications within a plant where there is no access to an exterior wall to vent through.

Mac Process has reorganized its petrochemical sales team. This move supports a robust strategy to better serve customers, as well as promote new solutions and a dedicated pneumatics TestCenter in the heart of the North American petrochemical industry.

Chris Isom, vice president of pneumatics for Mac Process, will spearhead the overall initiatives of the team. Chris has been in the industrial equipment industry for more than 20 years, with international executive responsibilities at Sulzer and Koch. Nick Giefer, industry director chemical and general, has 20 years experience managing the Mac Process projects group. With more than 750 projects worth $333M under his belt, Nick brings a winning combination of technical competence and field-tested experienceto the job. Jan van Bakergem, former chief executive officer of Coperion North America, is global industry director petrochemical for Mac Process, driving rainmaking efforts on a worldwide scale. He has more than 30 years of global executive experience. Rick Pruden, account executive petrochemical, has managed Mac Process quotes and regional pneumatics representative groups. He drove business as the chemical industry manager for seven years and has in-depth knowledge of both the petrochemical industry and Mac Process capabilities. Dick Spors, industry director, has more than 20 years of technical systems experience and primarily focuses on serving the needs of petrochemical customers.

“We’re committed to delivering excellent service for our large base of petrochemical producers and plastics processor customers as they upgrade and modernize their facilities to increase output, ” said Jay Brown, president and chief executive officer of Mac Process. “The Mac Process team has new solutions, and we are continuing to make significant investments in the petrochemical industry.”

Mac Process now offers new high pressure, large capacity airlocks specifically designed for the petrochemical industry. HP650 and HP850 valves can handle high rate, high pressure conveying applications, such as pellet take away systems at the discharge of extruders. The HP650 offers 6.5 cu ft per revolution nominal capacity to handle around 150,000 lbs per hour of product, while HP850 delivers 8.5 cu ft per revolution nominal capacities to handle around 220,000 lbs per hour of product. Components, such as bearings and seals within the design of the standard unit are all rated at 250 degrees F or above. Units are available in an option high temperature version, if needed.

Mac Process offers a significant advantage with an extensive North American pneumatics petrochemical TestCenter, launched in July 2011 and proofed with several successful high rate plastics conveying systems tests and demonstrations. Now, additive powders and pellets systems for efficient high throughput projects can be tested in Houston without incurring the cost and delay of global shipping.

Representing more than a $1 million investment, Phase One of the Houston TestCenter includes a CDP (continuous dense phase) test facility with 10” lines and 60 tons per hour convey capacity; pipe distances of 255 horizontal, 35 vertical, 5 elbows and 1 diverter valve; a 200 HP Compressor, and demonstrates a HP650 high pressure airlock. A planned Phase Two will extend the horizontal distance to 580 feet, and will add dilute phase capabilities in the Houston TestCenter.

As part of the Schenck Process Group, Mac Process has a global network of 33+ locations, 130+ territorial agencies, 22 assembly facilities, and Field Service Technicians, which provide the infrastructure to deliver global solutions on a turnkey or supply-only basis.
